Nice to see Rudy finally doing something I’ve wondered why more helmet companies haven’t done for a while. Magnetic covers for the air vents. Thought for a while that it’d be a good idea for helmets to have snap on or magnetic covers for the vents in their helmets, both the aero and lightweight versions. Seemed a fairly obvious thing for the companies to do, doesn’t take any real innovation and would also be a fairly easy and cheap option to add. That way you could turn any helmet in to a fully aero all the way down to very light and vented or anything in between. Each rider could then taylor their helmet to their needs at any time, clipping in or out the vent covers as and when needed and they could keep the covers in their Jersey pockets when not in use or set the helmet before starting.
Seems crazy that you can’t yet close the vents when it’s cooler or vice versa to optimise the helmet for the event and weather, this way you could have a very aero helmet at times and a nicely open vented helmet at others or just have the vents open that best suit you ect. Yes I know Helmet companies probably won’t do it as it means you can just buy one helmet that does it all instead of having to buy 2 or even 3 separate helmets but most people onky buy the one anyway and it’s a product that has to be replaced anyway after a crash or when it goes out of fashion.
The Fizik adaptive will be exciting once you can buy the licenses to print such things at home while also having a pressure map based on your own saddle use so that the saddle can be individually changed so the various pressure points that apply to you are taken in to account by the saddle design so it prints the relivant material thickness and softness/hardness on the saddle for each and every rider. Things are going that way as 3D printers become more and more popular, it’s going to be a really great thing for those smaller innovative companies who can’t currently compete in manufacturing cost terms etc when they can just sell each person a licence for their products for the individual to then print at home or wherever. It’ll remove a lot of the advantages that the big companies have because of buying power etc.
