Half-Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Bike Setup

Half-ironman 70.3 triathlon bike setup that’s aerodynamic and inexpensive to set up. Triathlon Taren shows off his new Cervelo P2 triathlon bike setup that he’s using for Half-Ironman 70.3 Austin in 2017, including hydration setup, power pedals, aero wheels, and a split nose saddle. Then Triathlon Taren explains how triathletes can toughen up their minds for their next race.

how much is that bike alltogether? 1200 $ power meter, 2k the bike, wheels?

You can get a between the bars bottle cage with a Garmin mount.

How much can you feel when you move your head with the tail? Read that for a lot of beginners it’s wiser to go tailless because you can’t hold position.

Taren, What model are those FSA cranks? and what size are they?

I’m sort of kicking myself now. They were selling that Rudy helmet for a huge discount in Ironman village…grrrr

The rain being one thing, didn’t the wind bother you on a set of 59 mm rims?

Agreed one needs to train in uncomfortable conditions as they come up.

Changes I would make to your setup. I just can’t imagine that water bottle on the frame is MORE aero than behind the seat. That right brake cable could be routed cleaner. The handlebars could be more aero. Also get rid of the 2x setup. Get rid of that small ring in the front along with the front derailleur, cable and shifter. One by is just a better way to go. Get a couple different options for rear cassettes depending on terrain. I usually remove one of the cassette cogs to make it a 1×10 to help with chain alignment. A 50 tooth up front for hilly courses and a 54 tooth up front for flat courses.

Pronounced HÜÜB, not HOOB — Dean Jackson taught me how to pronounce it.

Hah, somehow came back to this vid and this rainy ride reminds me of my two 70.3s so far: rainy and wet roads.
